School holidays with a difference – kids mountain bike fun with expert guidance.
Attending our Youth Academy courses will develop a foundation of core skills and knowledge that will allow your children to ride safely while building confidence. We’ll help to fend off pesky bad habits and common misconceptions that can hinder your kid’s riding development.
The course will take place at Cathkin Braes, a multi-purpose outdoor facility near Glasgow, with a newly developed mountain bike skills area, pump track and trails.
- Bike Safety Checks, Setup & Maintenance
- Speed Control
- Developing Technical Skills
- Pumping the Trail
- Skids & Wheelies
We’ll have multiple coaches on-hand throughout the week, so that every child can get the most from their coaching session. We have plenty of fun games and activities to keep the kids entertained while learning and exercising, such as Slow Race, Limbo, Balance Box and Long Jump.
Ages: 5-15 (groups will be split into abilities)
Ability: Kids are expected to be able to pedal up a short hill unassisted.
Time: 9am – 3pm (option for kids to arrive 30 mins before and stay for 30 mins after)
Duration: 6 hours (with plenty of snack and water breaks)
Lunch: Please supply your child with their own packed lunch each day; high in energy, with backup snacks, including enough water for the day (plus a bit extra just in case).
Kit: Helmet and gloves are required. Knee pads are strongly advised. Elbow pads are a bonus. We advise some waterproof clothing and a change of clothes, just in case of deluge.
Bike: Please make sure your children’s bike is in good and safe working condition. Off-road tyres are an necessity. If unsure, please have it checked by a qualified mechanic beforehand. Flat pedals are preferred!
Tools: All participants should ideally be self-sufficient – it breeds a good attitude for riding in the future. Please bring an appropriately-sized inner tube, pump, puncture repair kit and a basic multi tool for the most common of trail-side repairs. Tools aren’t mandatory, but if repairs are required during the course then we’ll have to charge for the parts.
We typically run courses for the main school holidays (Easter, Summer & October Week) so please check our events for dates and tickets.
All extra belongings can be stored in our TrailCoach van while we are out on the trails, so don’t worry about packing too much kit and food – better safe than sorry! We’ll never be too far away to go and grab things if required.
The maximum number of kids per coach is limited to 8, but ideally we’ll stick to 6. Our total group size is limited to 16. All our guides and coaches are PVG-checked – information is available on request. See our FAQs for extra info and tips prior to the course. If you are unsure if the course if right for your child, please submit a rider assessment or if you prefer to discuss directly, feel free to call or email.
