Get the Maximum Performance from your Mountain Bike

Our tailored MTB Suspension Setup course helps you to understand how to get the most out of your mountain bike.

Although we typically cover suspension setup in a limited capacity while coaching, we offer this as a dedicated, in-depth course. This will allow us to delve deeper into kinematic theory and more detailed setup adjustments including volume spacers and potentially even shim stacks.

Our suspension courses typically run for a full day, with the morning spent on the Education Station, then hit the trails after lunch to make adjustments and put to work what we learned in the morning.

Learn the Theory

To confidently adjust our suspension, firstly we have to understand how it works. In the morning, we spend our time aboard the Education Station learning key parts that make suspension systems function. Next, we apply our new knowledge to real-world examples out on the trail and how suspension feeling translates to adjustments. Our morning syllabus includes:

  • What’s inside – key internals of suspension
  • Spring workshop – setup, sag and different forms of adjustment
  • Damping not Dampening
  • Rebound or compression
  • Introduction to suspension curves – progressive vs regressive
  • Suspension troubleshooting – How to go from feeling to adjustment

Suspension Testing Session

The fun part! After a morning in the classroom, we head out to the trails to put our new-found knowledge to the test. We set up shop on a specific trail with varying key features, constantly measuring and making adjustments against base setting to ensure you are making positive progress. The afternoon will include:

  • Base suspension setup – Where were you and what changes will you make.
  • Testing session – Repeat various sections of trail with different key features to build an accurate picture of how your suspension is affected, then make adjustments.
  • Skills Coaching – Body position has a massive effect on suspension characteristics. Our coaches will be on hand to determine if its body or bike that needs to be modified.

What to Bring

Everything that you would normally bring to a coaching session. If it’s your first session with us, check out the article on preparing for your first coaching session for more info.

Useful extras to bring on your MTB suspension setup course would be:

  • Your regular kit bag and tools.
  • Your own shock pump – They’re all different.
  • Volume spacers that are specific to your own suspension – have these on hand for maximum adjustability.
  • We also recommend servicing your suspension beforehand – If you lack the experience to do it yourself then send it away to a specialist, such as TF tuned.

Private Bookings

Our sessions are tailored to your needs – our suspension workshops are available for both private groups and single clients looking to get the most from their mountain bike.

We can travel to a location of your choice, with it being a bolt-on package to a private skills session or even a corporate day out.
